Boardwalk "Something For The Weekend"
an all dayer at the boardwalk in sheff put on by the up carey street singer was held on the 4th of may. at only £1.50 it was well worth it. the event was headlined by paddy orange but more on him later. sadly, due to the shiteness of sheffield's sunday bus service i only got there in time for the last song of bright young things the caparos set. still sounded excellent though, they will go far. you should check them out. soon after arriving and buying sam a pint i left again to have my tea at home cos i was skint.
determined not to be late for the bit i went to later i worked out the bus times and me and ally met dan and sam outside in time for up carey street's set. they get better and better each time i see them, 'queen of the teams' is an awesome song and the fact that they had a few mates down added to the good atmosphere.
the main attraction was paddy orange and after stopping to reminisce over old bromheads gigs with john (of 'mardy monkey' fame) at the bar we whiled away the intervening band over a pint. paddy came on stage full of energy and burst into 'barumba'. with him and sophie they have a really good live set up going on, he is a great frontman and her voice is amazing. the best song was probably 'where did you go', but i do have an affinity with 'sundi league', it being my favourite song for all of last summer. the new songs went down really well and got me (and many others) dancing. the future is bright (boom tish) for the paddy orange project, i can't wait to see them again... hopefully there will be many oppurtunities over the summer.
musn't forget to mention shane's awesome DJing, he really is a soldier, haven't been to a gig over the last year where i haven't seen him (even in amsterdam!) and it was nice to see him taking centre stage for a bit.
