Bromheads Jacket @ Sheffield Foundry
the much anticipated return of bromheads jacket (i hadnt seen them since the 13th of december 2006) finally happened on the first bank holiday of this month. the second of three 'secret' comeback shows, the band had been billed as homicidal psycho jungle cat. most fans knew it was bromheads though and snapped up tickets.
it being a beautifully sunny bank holiday we thought it would be good to sit in the park and drink cans before setting off to the venue so me finn and sean hit spar and got our cans and thai sweet chili crisps (cos we're sad and the crisps are in the bromheads song 'shopping spree'). nice and merry we set off to get the bus up the hill to the uni. we had a swift pint in the courtyard of bar one and tried to find a pool table to play on before the band, unfortunately they were all taken, one by joe c from milburn, so we settled for the quiz machine.
i was in the toilet when i heard bromheads come on stage (sporting extremely long hair!) and launch into 'leslie parlafitt' so i rushed back into the main room and down to the front. it really had been too long since a bromheads gig, they really are one of the best live bands there are. they played through a 40 odd minute set including promising new tunes and the classics that everyone wanted to hear. the new single, 'speakerbox', sounded great as they wheeled out the organ which tim invited the crowd to name for him. 'hazy' had the crowd going absolutely mental and the usual carnage of 'what ifs and maybes' capped off the best gig of the year so far for me. the second album is set to be a good'un with the new tracks sounding great, 'arms waving' (or summat like that) standing out.
it was a perfect ending to a sunny bank holiday weekend and left me excited for more bromheads gigs. roll on their album tour.
